Visitor information and Advice

Please remember that uMkhuze Game Reserve is a Big 5 reserve. Do not get out of your car at any place excepting lookouts, hides and picnic areas. Check your surroundings before alighting from your vehicle when you do reach a picnic area, hide or lookout.

Keep below the 40 km/h speed limit in the reserve...and slower on the dirt roads - we recommend 20-25 km/h - you will se more animals this way.

Please remember all animals have the right of way (as do dung beetles and tortoises on the roads).

Keep a safe distance from elephants and rhinoceros when you encounter them on your drive.

Do not litter, please clean up after yourself in the park.

Do not feed the animals.

Should your encounter and injured animal or animal hampered by a snare, please pin the location and time,  take a photo if possible, and notify the first reserve official you may see, or notify the staff at Mantuma.

The gate times must be strictly applied to your visits to the hides and picnic areas too - you need to be back at your camp, or out of the gate by allocated gate closing times.

more visitor TIPS....

Keep a couple of spare plastic bags for rubbish disposal in your vehicle.

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and enough water - uMkhuze temperatures can go up to the high 40s (centigrade) in summer.

Do not forget your mozzie muthi....

If you intend braaing - please bring your own grid, wood and firelighters, and do not pick up wood in the reserve- it is not allowed.

Don't forget to bring enough batteries for torches and  memory cards for cameras.

Bring enough ice and try to be self-sufficient. There is a shop at Mantuma, but it is very basic and only stocks the most basic items.

Remember all the camps (including Mantuma) are unfenced and lions, leopards, hyenas and elephants could walk through at any time of the day.

Keep a close eye on your children at all times.
